I have a chocolate lab who has unknown allergies. She had, until recently, been on Atopica for her allergies, but recently had surgery removing a number of questionable spots (ended up apparently being nothing). However, after the surgery, she was not given the Atopica for a period of about 2 weeks and she seemed to actually be doing better.
The vet recommended switching her to a natural food to see if that helped her allergies enough that we could completely stop giving her Atopica (uber expensive), but he did not suggest what foods to try.

I'd like to find something thats still affordable and that doesn't contain the usual dog allergens. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Hi my name is Toni and I am new to this community. I am a young SAHM to 2 wonderful boys of 3 and 1 yrs of age. On Mothers day of this year we adopted a 2yr old Lab/Boxer mix, I decided that with my husband working crazy HRS and I am home all day and night with my boys we should have a protector. I was raised on a farm so I know how to care for animals, I just have never cared for a dog in the city life. WE live in a suburban area, in a roomy 2 story house with a great spacious fenced in back yard. Duke is a great fit for our family and we just love him, but here is my ?. I will be going to school in January, my boys will be in day care because I'm hoping to go full time and my boys will go to the on site day care, if everything works out I will be in school M-F from 7:20-4:20 and I will only have to be in school for one year (I'm going for Cosmetology.) I do not want to send my puppy to a doggy day care because he was adopted from the Dumb Friends League and freaks out when I drop him off to be groomed because he thinks we are leaving him forever and I cant really afford it either, he does do fine when I leave him home alone all day but that really only happens once a week. So I'm worried he might get lonely because it will be all week so I was wondering if it would be a good idea to adopt another dog to be his companion and I would get one of those little dogs for space reasons.

Hello! I am new to this community... I am wanting to adopt a boxer pup. I just graduated with my M.S. and am waiting to get a job so I have the opportunity to raise a puppy at this point. I wanted a good companion who will also be a good sort of protective dog. My fiance and I have a house in the suburbs with a large fenced in backyard.
Anyway,... I did a lot of reading and I finally chose a boxer...but I know there is a lot I cannot learn from a book. I want to be well prepared, so I come to this community to hear your thoughts and answers on the subject. Quirks about boxers, tips.... I have raised a puppy before, when I was in high school, but I have not raised a purebred, and not a boxer. I am also unsure as to how to find a good breeder. I do want to start with a puppy, because I have cats and I want to start training very young. Anyway.... so that's my story. I am all ears! If anyone here breeds boxers, let me know ^_^ I am moving to Iowa to my house in a few weeks.

I found this great community through a LJ community search, and I just couldn't resist joining! I hope you don't mind =)
I have pictures of my dog on my journal, you can click on the link if you want to see them (http://road_to_vetmed.livejournal.com). I thought it'd be better than uploading pictures to your page =) He has behavior problems, but he's just so cute attached to us that we did all we could to make him better. He's pretty good now, and definitely happier.

UPDATE - Skeeter Foundation Contest for the Rescue
by jackson_boxer (jackson_boxer)
at October 25th, 2006 (11:52 am)

Wow! Thanks to the help from my new friends, I moved up to place 15 at Skeeter Pals Foundation contest. Only 5 more places, and I'll win some prizes for the rescue. But, there's only 2 more days left to vote.

Should anyone have the time or inclination to vote for me, it takes less than 60 seconds to get a password, and confirm their e-mail. Then any, and all "4 PAWS" votes would be most appreciated!

The rescue really needs anything and everything we can get our hands on. My auntie and her partner run their rescue on 100% donated time, gas, tolls, and donated monies to supplement vet bills, surgeries, medication, prosthetics, rehab, rescue fees, and bail. So, anything I win will be appreciated, no matter how small.

Just Sign Up! Confirm their e-mail! Vote "4 PAWS" for me!

Thanks to everydog who voted yesterday; much appreciated!

Skeeter Foundation Contest for the Rescue

The contest ends on the 27th! That means I have3 more days. I only need enough votes to move up 11 spots to win something for the rescue, so please ,if you have the time and inclination, please go vote!!!

Jackson the Boxer

Thank you to those who voted last night; I'm still on page 3, but it's getting close now!!!

Just about 5 or 6 more "4 PAW" votes should move me up another page - woo-woo!!! I'm sooooo excited. Really, thank you all so much for the votes! :)

Now, how about a few "watching TV 4 PAW" votes to get me up one more page, where the other lazy humans might venture on their own, and start voting. I think they only go through a couple of pages, then get bored, or something. The dogs on the first couple of pages have hundreds of votes, and that's the only logical conclusion this dog can make!

This Contest Ends 3 DAYS! If I Am Among The Top Winners, Anything I Win Is Going To The Rescue!

And, If You ALL Would Go Vote, And I Should Happen To Win This Thing, Some Lucky Person Is Going To Get A Very Expensive Trip To New York City, All Expenses Paid, For Very Little Money. That Money Will Also "Go To The Dogs!"

Time's Running Out, So Get Those 4 Paws Voting, Please!

Click On The Address Below. If I'm Not On Page 3, I Move Up A Page (to page 2 next). Next To Login, It Says "Sign Up Now!" You Can Get Your Password, Confirm Their Instant E-Mail, And Vote, All During The Commercials, And Not Miss A Second Of The Show You're Watching!!

It's That Simple, And I Need You ALL!

...Medium Plaid Dog/Cat Carrier Bag For Sale!
by mangyowl (mangyowl)
at September 4th, 2006 (08:12 pm)

current mood: bouncy

My fiance and I are moving to Canada on the 10th, and we needed to buy a new carrier bag for our cat that was airline approved, so now I have this one I need to sell.

It is VERY nice! It would be best for small-medium sized dogs, or cats. It can hold pets up to 22lbs.

It is plaid. The brand is Pack n' Paws. It has a mesh top panel, and the sides are mesh.

You can roll up the curtains, or leave the clipped down. Very good quality. Perfect condition. We used it for our 11lb. cat who goes everywhere with us. Take a look at the pictures :) If anyone is interested please e-mail me poopypantsjack@yahoo.com or comment.

We are asking $40.00 that includes shipping costs. It was much more expensive new..Also I can only accept Paypal, unless you can get cash/money order here before the 10th). Thank you.

I just had a quick question.
I have 2 little chihuahuas.
They sleep in a kennel during the night because we have white carpets and I suppose they prefer to potty on the carpet while everyone is sleeping. heh
But they actually love sleeping in there so it's no big deal.

The past couple mornings that I've woke up...There is diarrhea ALL over the cage. Not just in one little spot, but all over.
This morning it was all over my dogs head and body and just all over.
It's not real watery. It's pretty dark too.
They aren't acting sick at all.
I'm not sure if it is one dog, or both.
They've always been pretty healthy.
I'm not sure if they are going diarrhea all day, or just at night. I usually just let them out for about 20 minutes several times a day and go do what I need to do, because they are stubborn and wont go right away and I don't have time to wait.
They aren't going all over the house. Just in the cage sometime during the night.
I checked my male dog and noticed the dry poo on his bottom. So I'm assuming that he has it.
And my female had a tiny tiny bit....but I also noticed her scooting her bottom across the living room carpet a couple times.
(that always scares me because I always thought that was a sign of worms?)
I'm not sure what is wrong with them or if it's something serious.
As I said, they are acting pretty normal...I usually can tell when they aren't feeling well. But they're playing and eating and drinking water fine. It's very odd.
I'm wondering if I should be worried and take them to the vet...or if it's not really a big deal and just wait for it to pass and clean up doggy poo in the meantime.
I've never had either of my babies get sick before so I'm not even sure what to do.

Sorry this was long, but if you have any ideas please let me know.
